The first patch seems rather confused to me - some of the changes in it seem to be either undoing changes previously made, or perhaps just introducing seemingly undesirable changes, and it messes up the formatting of the ChangeLog, so it's hard to see exactly what's happened. So leaving that patch for now...

I've created a new patch to cover all the remaining changes necessary for 1.2.2 and 1.2.3, including PHP 5.3 and Python 2.7 builds. Ticket title changed accordingly.
